So I suppose this review is more just an FYI for everyone reading. Just doesn't make any sense, because I ran multiple stress tests (Orthos CPU loader which uses the prime engine, various graphics benchmarks, memory tests, multimedia programs, etc) and that all ran fine with not a single error ever, so the processor itself was "fine" as far as I could tell. Maybe there was some sort of defective quality on the specific processor I was using.
I suspect some sort of conflict was taking place with the way this processor's memory controller was operating. To this day, I don't really understand what the problem was. Couldn't get the USB to lock the system no matter what I tried (and I tried everything multiple times) I then reinstalled the other new hardware (2 GB Gskill PC3200 memory, an HD4670 video card) and everything ran perfectly. I finally (against logical explanation) decided to put my Venice 3 200+ back in and it solved the problem. I even replaced my power supply with a newer one, tried messing with USB jumper settings, monitored all system voltages including USB, etc. Initially, I had thought it was due to other new hardware I had installed, so for a couple of days I basically reinstalled everything one by one to restore it back to the original configuration. The system booted up fine and ran various programs fine, but for some reason, when I would request an operation that involved heavy data transmission over ANY usb port on my computer, it would lock my system up. I purchased the socket 939 version of this processor to replace a Venice core 3200+ that I had had in my system for 3+ years. Enhanced Virus Protection acts as a preventative measure causing viruses to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, eventually being flushed from system memory. Not sure what the problem was. Enhanced Virus ProtectionAll AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are Enhanced Virus Protection-enabled.CNQ: Cool'n'Quiet TechnologyAMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems that can effectively lower power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.
And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments.
The Athlon 64 X2 3800+ AM2 processor is equipped with HT technology to enable a system bus speed of up to 2000MHz, delivering a maximum of 8GB/s I/O bandwidth. HyperTransport TechnologyHyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency and point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems and networking and telecommunications equipment. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses. AMD64 Dual-core TechnologyAMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance.
